LEWISTON — Students completing the Manufacturing Program in partnership with Northeast Technical Institute, Lewiston CareerCenter and Western Maine Community Action celebrated their last day of classes with instructor Scott Moran and WMCA employment and training specialists Cher Tyra and Monica Millhime.

The 11-week program provides students with core competencies in bench-work, precision measurement, blueprint reading, industrial safety, technical math, computer applications, lean manufacturing, manufacturing concepts and workplace skills/communication and leadership development.

Students have the opportunity to select an area of concentration in the manufacturing industry upon successful completion of the classroom part of their program. The program is part of the manufacturing career pathway which prepares students for a variety of entry-level positions in the manufacturing industry.

Students meeting the eligibility guidelines were supported by funds from the Competitive Skills Scholarship Program and the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act.

The next manufacturing class begins Monday, Oct. 22. An orientation session is scheduled for 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at the Lewiston CareerCenter. Registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 21. The training is valued at more than $4,500 with no cost for eligible participants.
