AUBURN — Gerald F. Cadman, 79, of Buckfield, died early Thursday evening, Sept. 13, at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 23, 1939, in Hackensack, N.J., a son of Earnest and Alice W. (Tillson) Cadman. He attended Mechanic Falls schools and went on to enlist in the U.S. Air Force.
Gerald worked as an auto mechanic at Maine Tire & Supply in Auburn for 37 years. He retired in 2001, but not one to sit idle, he immediately went to drive for the Lee family of dealerships until very recently.
Gerald was an avid hunter and fisherman and especially loved spending time at the family camp in Wilsons Mills near Aziscohos Lake. He enjoyed working in his garden, carpentry, helping to build several homes and camps, and of course the countless hours spent rebuilding old cars. His greatest pleasure was time spent with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by three sons, Alan Cadman and his wife, Tanya, Brad Cadman and his wife, Lori, and Chris Cadman; a daughter, Dawn Gray and her husband, Mike; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Jenny Sturtevant; step-children, Fred, Ed and Laurie; their mother, Signie Cadman; companion, Linda Cote.
His family wishes to thank the staff of the Androscoggin Hospice House for their care of Gerald during his time there.
A memorial graveside service with military honors will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 980 Turner St., Auburn. Arrangements are in the care of the Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 26 W. Dwinal St., Mechanic Falls.
