The Aug. 30 edition of the Sun Journal was a good example of why people have such low regard for the media. The newspaper’s bias against conservative Republicans is appalling. The Sun Journal featured two negative articles on the front page (“Poliquin proposal just scary … ” and “LePage urged to apologize …”), as well as a reference to a third negative article on page two (“Trump’s trade threats have caused boycotts …”).
While the LePage article is news, there is no justification for it on the front page except for the paper’s animosity for the conservative Republican governor.
There was a negative reference to President Trump with regard to Canadians. How evil for Trump to put the interests of American workers before those of Canadians.
The worst case of fake news and biased reporting was that lead article concerning Rep. Bruce Poliquin. The story included a picture of Poliquin’s opponent touring a food bank. That might suggest that Jared Golden is opposed to hunger while Poliquin is in favor of people going hungry. How dare Poliquin propose that able-body adults work 20 hours a week to get free benefits paid for by Americans who do work? How horrible to expect anything from those living freely off the labor of others.
The American economy is booming. An article about that is included in that issue but relegated to the back page of the second section. Evidently, an article about PETA is more deserving of front page reporting than positive news caused by Republicans.
