POLAND — The 20th anniversary of Poland Regional High School will be celebrated at halftime during Friday night’s football game.
Authorized recently by the Regional School Unit 16 board of directors, the ceremony will honor original members of the high school’s building committee, along with faculty and staff members who have been at the school since it opened.
The RSU 16 board of directors recently recognized teachers Katie Toothaker and Michelle Smith.
Toothaker was 2018 Androscoggin County Teacher of the Year, and gave the keynote address at the opening day gathering of the district’s staff.
Smith has been recognized by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
At its recent meeting, the RSU 16 board also learned from Karen Hill, data specialist at the central office, that the district’s new website should be ready by mid-October.
Superintendent Kenneth Healey reported that he had met with the town managers of Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland for breakfast and plans to make this a monthly gathering.
The board granted Healey an extension on hiring teachers and administrators until the board’s meeting in October.
Healey and board Chairwoman Mary Martin said the additional time is needed because some positions remain vacant.
