OTISFIELD — The Otisfield Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Old Town House, 53 Bell Hill Road.

The program will resemble one last year and is titled “What’s in Those Boxes?” During the evening, several society members will display the contents of one of the society’s archival collections, which are normally stored away in gray document boxes in the archives room.

The contents of these collections will be shown in the main room of the Town House for a close-up look. In the first area, Jean Pottle will examine and explain a collection of some 10 autograph albums, popular especially about 1900.

At a second station, Alan Douglass and Derek Dorr will introduce visitors to the  letters and legal documents contained in the Knight Collection. Celeste Hyer will show and comment on a handsome volume titled “Early Settlers of Otisfield” and other manuscripts belonging to Grinfill Holden, the town’s first historian.

Callie Zilinsky will serve as docent for a large variety of old school records dating back to 1860. On display around the walls of the large room will be some of the many pictures, most taken by Ethel Turner and Jean Hankins between 1996 and 2000, showing most of the houses in Otisfield.

The program is free and open to the public.
