After the death of Sen. John McCain, it took the American Legion and the VFW to force the commander in chief to lower the U.S. flag over the White House. What a contest between a hero and a non-hero.

Sixty years ago, “The Adventures of Superman” aired on television. He was faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive and could leap tall buildings in a single bound. Nothing matches the speed with which President Trump can turn a Tucker Carlson, Lou Dobbs or Sean Hannity inanity into one of his tweets. Trump is power hungry, admires the power of despots and is, in turn, backed by “white power” advocates. Trump Tower was where his sycophants leaped at the chance to undermine the 2016 election with the help of Russian agents.

Superman stood for truth, justice and the American way. Kellyanne Conway has spoken about “alternative” facts and Rudy Giuliani recently stated that “truth isn’t truth.”

Trump has repeatedly threatened to fire Jeff Sessions, Rod Rosenstein and Robert Mueller. So much for justice.

The American way doesn’t insult Gold Star parents, pay to silence adult film stars, call Canada a threat to national security, start trade wars, campaign for sexual predators, attack freedom of the press, employ wife-beaters and tax cheats, promote racial discord or separate asylum-seeking parents from their children.

Fortunately, there is a super-hero fighting for truth, justice and the values of America. His name is Robert Mueller.
