I have concerns regarding Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s stance on Roe v. Wade. In interviews, he says he will not overturn settled law, but actions speak louder than words. Recently, Kavanaugh wrote an opinion in which he took the position that delayed a decision on an immigrant teen’s abortion until she had a sponsor.

Health care across the board is at stake. This nation needs a Supreme Court justice who will uphold the Affordable Care Act and will champion Medicaid and Medicare. Kavanaugh’s track record of dissenting from rulings upholding the ACA will harm thousands of Americans.

Pressing issues such as immigration reform, poverty, LGBTQIA+ rights, access to clean air and water, among many others, could be undermined or ignored completely. Instead of being a beacon of hope, I fear that the highest court in the land could turn into a mouthpiece for President Trump and be a lasting legacy of hatred and blatant disregard for equity and fundamental fairness.

The confirmation of a Supreme Court justice who was nominated in large part to protect Trump from prosecution and potential impeachment will not do this country any good. Instead, it will cause a lot of pain, suffering and continued divisiveness for decades to come.

I hope that Sen. Susan Collins will do what is right for her constituents. The health, well-being, and the very life of the American people is in her hands. I hold her accountable to vote against confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
