Last year, the Mt. Blue golf team never came to fruition because there wasn’t enough players to man the team.
This year, the Cougars will play as a junior varsity team.
“The team is made up of all new players,” Mt. Blue coach Mark Cyr said. “We did not have enough players last year to justify having a team.
“We are playing a JV schedule because they are all new to golf competition and we are trying to keep them interested and having fun. We hope we can win a few matches to show the players they can be successful at this sport.”
There are no seniors on the team, but there are a bunch of juniors including: Preston Ross,Gabe Robinson, Lord Casey, Evan Stone, Jack Cushman and Aubrey Barrett. Sophomore Nick Fraser and freshmen Isabelle Fifield, Ryan Keaton and Reese Keaton.
“Right now, they are learning the rules of game and some of the skills needed to be successful,” Cyr said. “It’s a slow process, but we hope by the end of the season they will feel much more comfortable.”
