LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen are reviewing a proposal to spend about $16,500 for more playground equipment at the Recreation Field, but no specifics have been announced.

Selectman Nixon Ortiz has been working on getting prices for equipment and a fence. The $16,500 does not include fencing.

In 2011, swings, a slide and a climbing net were donated anonymously, and a canopy erected over them. The canopy was later vandalized, prompting former Town Manager Kristal Flagg to repair it, Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Monday.

After it was no longer repairable, a new covering was bought last year for about $125 and that, too, has been sliced and ripped by vandals.

Town Manager Stephen Gould is also looking at security options for the field, which is patrolled by police.

The money for new equipment could come from a recreation reserve account that has about $19,000.

In 2011 voters approved using about $8,000 from the reserve account to resurface of the basketball court and fix cracks on the tennis court.

Selectmen will continue their discussion at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the Town Office.
