LEWISTON — Frieda E. Skirmont, 96, of Lewiston passed away Tuesday, Aug. 21, at home, with her dear friends by her side.
She was born in Karlsruhe, Germany, on July 27, 1922, a daughter of the late Max and Frieda Hettel. She met her husband-to-be, Alec Skirmont, during World War II. They were married in Germany and she then joined her husband at various locations to which he was assigned during his military career. When Alec retired from the military, they moved to Lewiston, where they lived until Alec died in 2013.
Although she was not Catholic, she attended Mass with her husband at Holy Cross Church on a regular basis. In her younger years in Germany, she was a talented ballerina and also sold magazines to earn her living. Although she has no surviving relatives, she developed many close friendships during her life in Lewiston. Two of these very close friends, Irene and Roger Roy, took her in to live in their home after her husband, Alec, died in 2013.
With the help of their family and good friends, Freida was well taken care of during her last years. She was very grateful to be able to celebrate holidays and birthdays with these special people who cared for her.
Irene, Roger, family and all her friends would like to thank all the staff at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice for the loving care they gave Frieda in her last years.
