LEWISTON — Sharon L. Burgess, 73, a resident of Wales, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Central Maine Medical Center, surrounded by her loved ones. Her family remembers her as a generous, selfless, hardworking, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, auntie and friend.

She was born Jan. 31, 1945, the daughter of Edwin E. Allen and Phyllis M. (Yokell) Allen in Lewiston. Sharon attended schools in Lewiston. At 13, she moved to Wales, and when she was in the milking parlor at the Brownell Farm, she met Paul, the man she would marry.

On May 22, 1965, she married the love of her life, Paul Burgess, of Wales at Our Lady of the Rosary in Sabattus, and they had a wonderful life together for 53 years. She enjoyed raising her family, playing bingo and listening to Elvis. She was a member of the Oak Hill Boosters and Wales Fire Auxiliary, and served as a red phone dispatcher for the Wales Fire Department. She was a fixture at all events involving her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Burgess, of Wales; their five children: Monica Mooney and husband, David, of Wales; Paul E. Burgess and wife, Theresa, of Wales; Phyllis St. Pierre and husband, Steve, of Hartford; Kevin S. Burgess and wife, Melanie, of Sabattus; and Sharon Siegel and husband, Christopher, of Wales; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters: Linda M. Hallatt and husband, Richard, of Wales; Dorothy Dunn and husband, Tom, of Monmouth; Ann Logan of Brunswick; and Edna Thomas of Wales; a brother, Peter Allen, and wife, Diane, of Wales; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Sidney.

She was predeceased by her parents.
