INDUSTRY – The first ever 5k and 1K Kids Races to support Double B Equine Rescue on the West Mills Road will be held Monday, Sept. 3, in Madison.

Co-owner Brenda Green said one of the facility’s sponsors is Karen Rapallo a racer from Massachusetts. She suggested the fundraiser, helped organize it and hopes to make it an annual event.

The races will be held at Hight Chrysler Dodge, 507 Lakewood Rd in Madison. Registration opens at 8 a.m. with the 1K starting at 9:45 a.m. and the 5K at 10 a.m.

There will be awards for the top male and female overall, age group and wheelchair/disabled classes. The first 150 entrants will receive T-shirts. Any participant who raises $50 or more by Sept. 1 will have their entry fee refunded. Walkers and pets are welcome.

Registrations for the 5K is $17.50 prior to Sept. 1 or $20 afterwards. The 1K fee is $7. Registrations may be made online at  https://runsignup.com/Race/ME/Madison/RunForHorses5K.

Volunteers are needed at the race to help with various tasks.

More than 32 horses and ponies are currently at the facility waiting for forever homes.
