AUBURN — Police surrounded a home Wednesday afternoon on Second Street during an armed standoff that lasted nearly an hour.

Police were called to the house about 3:30 p.m. after receiving a report that a woman was inside with a handgun.

More than a dozen officers surrounded the house, near the corner of Second and Brooks streets.

After an hour of negotiations, police persuaded the woman to put down the gun and come outside, according to Police Chief Jason Moen.

She was taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston to be evaluated.

There were no immediate charges.

During the standoff, police blocked the area to traffic. By 4:30 p.m., the street had been reopened.
