POLAND — This week’s Wicked Wednesday program presents their presentation of “The Big House Fire” at 6:30 p.m. in All Souls Chapel.
It’s been over 40 years since the Poland Spring House burned on July 3, 1975. James Aikman, former news director for WMTW Channel 8, stood on the porch of the Presidential Inn (formerly the Riccar Inn) while doing a live broadcast of the fire. WMTW recently donated these films to the Poland Spring Preservation Society and they were able to restore and edit the 3½-hour fire film into a more manageable time frame. In 1976, Jim Aikman founded the Poland Spring Preservation Society.
Suggested donation is $5 and will benefit the society. Water and cookies will be provided.
The society’s mission is to preserve the historic buildings and educate the public about Poland Spring’s unique place in history. The museums are open to the public May through October.
