FARMINGTON — Franklin County Animal Shelter is featuring Khai and Saxson as its Pets of the Week.

Khai is a 3-year-old male American pitbull terrier. He is one of those dogs that looks and sounds fierce inside his kennel, but once he is out, he is as gentle as a lamb, according to shelter staff. Shelter volunteer Wenda Hunter has been taking Khai out of the shelter environment into town, and she says he has been fantastic on leash and with meeting new people. Khai knows several basic commands, takes treats gently and will play ball until he can’t walk anymore. He doesn’t seem to mind cats, and he has shown vast improvement in socialization with other dogs. Khai seeks to find an owner willing to see the dog outside of his kennel at the shelter.

Saxson is a 4-to 6-year-old male cat. Saxson gets along with some of the other cats at the shelter, and he’s not super fond of people or dogs. Saxson may be visited at the shelter — if he can be found.

Khai, Saxson and other pets may be visited at the shelter from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays at 550 Industry Road. Cats and dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption and have been vaccinated for rabies, treated for fleas, microchipped and have had nail trims. The shelter also rehomes barn cats, livestock and other pets.
