DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Sumner Scholarship Fund is holding two fundraisers in September. On Sept. 3 at Buckfield Community Day, pulled pork sandwich plates including chips and a drink will be available for $8 each. Donations to offset the cost of the sandwich would also greatly be appreciated.

On Sept. 8, the annual bottle drive begins with drivers picking up bagged returnable bottles in Sumner. Bottles may also be dropped off at the Sumner Town Office or at Coach Terry’s Redemption Center in Turner. Volunteer drivers are needed for a few hours to collect bottles on assigned routes or to take bagged bottles from the town office to the redemption center.

All Sumner residents may apply for the annual scholarship awards. There are no age restrictions. Applications are available at the Town Office or online at www.sumnermaine.us and must be submitted by April 30. DEAR SUN SPOTS: A while ago, a reader wrote in about having a problem with squirrels in their house. I have something I bought at Aubuchon Hardware that I believe can help. It’s a Rodent Repeller and I think it’s the greatest thing! You will never have a squirrel, mouse, rat, fly, mosquito, ant, or spider in your house again. In large houses you might need two. ANSWER: I believe Jeannine is referring to the Victor Heavy-Duty Pestchaser Pro Rodent Repellent. There are other brands, too. This bit of electronic technology plugs into an electrical outlet and emits high frequency sound waves that effectively repel rodents. You don’t hear a thing and it’s safe to use around your pets. It’s probably a good idea to make sure these are in stock before you head to the store as they are a popular item!
