AUBURN — The Auburn Community Concert Band, under the direction of Milt Simon, will conclude its 10-week evening concert series at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22.

The 75-minute performance is scheduled to take place at Festival Plaza on Main Street, weather permitting. If inclement weather is forecasted, the concert will be held indoors at the Gendron Franco Center on Cedar Street in Lewiston.

“The ACCB’s Greatest Hits” is the theme for the evening. The program includes many of the group’s favorite songs from the past 36 seasons, including medleys by The Doors, Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, Earth, Wind & Fire, the Beach Boys and the Broadway musical “Smokey Joe’s Cafe.”

This year marks the 37th anniversary since band director Milt Simon first organized this musical group. The 49 volunteer musicians participating this summer range in age from 13 to 89, and together represent a total of 16 Maine communities.

People planning to attend the performance should bring a lawn chair and are advised to arrive well before the concert starts. Audiences have been averaging 300 people throughout the band’s summer season.

Ample free parking is available in the parking garage located across the street from the plaza.
