Mahoosuc Land Trust will collect data and make observations about what birds are doing as the summer begins to wane. Community members are invited to the event at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Valentine Farm Conservation Center, 162 North Road. Birds sometimes appear to be lethargic and less active on late summer days much like humans. However, there are still a lot of birds to see, like this black and white warbler. Most chicks have fledged, although they can often be seen begging parents. In some cases, newly fledged birds are the same size and color of their parents. Other birds, like warblers and birds of prey, are wearing a juvenile plumage which can make them challenging to identify.
