MEXICO — Two people have applied to be director of the Mexico Free Public Library, Town Manager Jack Gaudet said.

Selectmen are expected to interview the candidates before their next meeting Aug. 21 and could hire someone then. 

Heather Rogers resigned as of July 28 after two years as director. She has accepted a position with Region 9 School of Applied Technology in Mexico, Gaudet said last week.

Her former assistant, Sharon Madore, praised her for her work and said, “It’s a real loss to this community.”

Board Chairman Richard Philbrick said selectmen would like to recognize Rogers at the town’s Night of Appreciation this fall.

Selectmen voted July 17 to cut library hours from 33 to 24 per week after they hire a director. The decision was made to save money.

The new hours, which will be year-round, will be set in consultation with the new director and the town manager, Selectman Clifford Stewart said Tuesday evening. 

The library is open Wednesday through Saturday.

The next selectmen meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21.
