BETHEL — Dennis Dreher, artist, sculptor, inventor and longtime resident of the Flat Road, Bethel, passed away Sunday, July 22, after a long battle with leukemia.

He was born Dec. 25, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Joseph and Esther Dreher.

He grew up in Philadelphia and Bucks County, Pa., where he graduated from local schools. Notably, he served as artist in residence at the Laboratory for Computer Graphics and Spatial Analysis at Harvard University, collaborated with Buckminster Fuller, inventor of the geodesic dome, and he presented and lectured at the Rhode Island School of Design. He made Maine his home in the early 1970s.

He was a gentle soul, had a great love, affection for his family and was extremely proud of their accomplishments. He is survived by his wife, Gemma Morrill-Dreher, of 39 years; one daughter, Cassandra Hergert, of Hamburg, Germany; two grandsons, Julian and Elliot; and her husband, Nils Hergert; two sons: Damian Morrill of Jonesville, S.C., and his family, his wife, Melissa, two grandchildren, a granddaughter, Ashley, and a grandson, Alex Morrill; Elijah A. Dreher of Sumter, S.C., his wife, Lynn, four sons, John Grasso, Cobi Dreher, Benjamin Grasso and Evan Dreher; his brother, Brian Dreher, of Vienna; and a large extended family.

He is predeceased by a son, Shaun Morrill; his parents, Joseph and Esther Dreher; and his mother-in-law, Mary Leimbach.
