Survivors, caregivers and friends of the Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine meander through the flower gardens at Mary and Bob Van Nest’s home in Norway on July 14. Participants saw different plants of various colors, landscaping and listened to stories. And, tucked away behind flowers, were little surprises like statues of fairies, a Buddha, frogs and other treats. “Once we started building the gardens, it was hard to stop,” commented Mary. “When you are present in the gardens, it is peaceful; you see the colors and smell the fragrance of the different flowers in bloom.”
