NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine, located in the Stephens Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic building at 199 Main St., announces their August activities.
Healing through Music: 1 to 3:30 p.m.Wednesday, Aug. 1 at McLaughlin Garden and Homestead, 97 Main St., South Paris. Musicians from Sebago-Long Lake Music Festival will perform a 45-minute chamber music concert in the historic barn and is free for anyone impacted by cancer and caregivers.
Weekly Kayaking Wellness: 9 to 11 a.m. Saturdays, Aug. 4, 11, 18 and 25. Meet at the public boat launch in Pennesseewassee Park on Route 118 on Norway Lake for some fun and exercise on the lake. Bring a life jacket and kayak, paddle board or canoe.
Lunch with Mary: Noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14. This is a time to visit with Mary Dempsey and learn about the resources available at the Center. For those who are newly diagnosed with cancer, in treatment, a survivor or a caregiver. Bring lunch if desired, coffee and tea will be available.
Yoga Warriors: 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 only, at Posabilities, 15 Tannery St., Norway. This free gentle yoga class will support healthy living for individuals facing the challenges of cancer through gentle movement and breath, supportive restorative yoga postures and guided meditation and relaxation. Banding Together To Restore: 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays, Aug. 6, 13, 20 and 27 at Richard Bader Physical Therapy, 176 Main St., Norway. The program, led by Lori Britting, is focused on regaining motion and strength through guided instruction using stretching and colored Therabands. Each participant will be encouraged to work within their abilities that will safely gain their desired goals. Getting back energy and the ability to move easier and carry out daily tasks and enjoying life are part of this program. Preregistration is encouraged. Yoga for Wellness: 8 to 9 a.m. Fridays, Aug. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 at the Center. Kat Larsen or Sherri will teach the class, which will include breathing, movement and relaxing meditation while seated or standing. Check the website for more information.
Chair Yoga: 3 to 4 p.m. Fridays, Aug. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 at the Center. Sherri will lead the class on breathing, movement and relaxing meditation while seated or standing.
Self Reiki: Tuesday, Aug. 28 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Center. Charlotte Labelle will demonstrate how Reiki helps to alleviate stress and promote relaxation.
Stampin’ Up: 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1 at the Center. Kathy provides materials and instruction to make a variety of cards.
Fun with Crafts: 4 p.m. Tuesdays Aug. 7, 14, 21 and 28. Sherri and other volunteers will bring in a different project to try each week. Stop in and learn something new or bring a project to share.
Drop in hours are Tuesdays from 3 to 7 p.m. plus Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers are available to provide comfort items such as port protectors, wigs, hats, pillows or look for resources. They have many pamphlets and a lending library.
The Center is also a place to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, chat with a volunteer or participate in scheduled programs. Activities such as coloring, knitting and games are available at all times.
