LISBON — The Maine Department of Transportation will start repaving Route 196 in Lisbon on or about Aug. 6, according to town Public Works Director Thomas Martin Jr. He said the project might impact traffic, but delays are expected to be minimal because of the scheduling.

“They’ll be doing most of the work at night,” Martin said. “It’s not always easy to do, so we really appreciate them doing that.”

Paving on Route 196 will start at Main Street and stretch a mile to Capital Avenue. Work will also be done at Frost Hill Avenue and extend about a quarter-mile. An initial schedule released by the MDOT calls for repaving to wrap up by mid-September.

This road project will have less impact on traffic than the state transportation department’s current Mill Street bridge project. That has caused traffic to be rerouted on a 2.5-mile detour around the work.

That project, which includes road construction along with bridge work, is expected to be completed by mid-October. The town is also taking advantage of the work by installing water and gas upgrades.
