PORTLAND — Mary Louise Goodridge, 88, of Portland passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 18, at Maine Medical Center following a long battle with cancer, and more recently a stroke.
She was born in Lewiston on May 3, 1930, the daughter of Ovide J. Theberge and Margaret McCarthy Theberge. She was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1949.
Following high school, she married her husband of 50 years, Ernest Earle Goodridge, who passed away in May 1999.
Mary was a past matron and life member of Cornerstone Chapter 193 for over 50 years.
She enjoyed spending time with her son and going on trips with him to New Hampshire, Massachusetts and western and central Maine. One thing she liked to do on day trips was to stop at a C.N. Brown and have a steamed red hot dog with her son. She liked going with her son to motorcycle swap meets and to sit and eat fried dough and watch people walk by. Mary was very friendly and enjoyed talking to anyone she came in contact with her. People would always mention how nice it was to share stories with her.
She is survived by her loving son, Eric Ernest Goodridge, of Portland who took care of her since her diagnosis in 2002.
Her son would like to thank Dr. Roger Enhorn, director of the Oncology/Hematology Center at Mercy Fore River, and his staff for taking great care of his mother. He would also like to thank Dr. Donna Greenwood of Portland Internal Medicine at Baxter Boulevard for caring for his mother.
There are two people who Eric would like to acknowledge and thank, and they are his best friend, David Dadiego, and his wife, Melissa Dadiego. Without their help, Mary would not have been able to spend time at home before her passing.
Friends and family are invited to share their memories and offer their condolences by visiting Mary’s online guest book at www.jonesrichandbarnes.com.
