FARMINGTON — A local man is accused of providing heroin to a Wilton man who overdosed July 4, according to the sworn statement of Wilton officer Ethan Kyes.
Derek A. Martin, 24, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for a felony charge of unlawful trafficking in heroin. A conviction on the charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Kyes and Wilton Sgt. Chad Abbott responded to a complaint of a possible drug overdose at 417 Depot St. in Wilton, reported late July 4 to the Franklin County Regional Communications Center in Farmington.
Kyes and Abbott were met outside the residence by Martin and a woman who escorted police to a second-story apartment, where they found a man turning purple and snoring. A neighbor was performing CPR on the man, according to Kyes’ affidavit.
During an investigation, Kyes seized the cellphone of the man who overdosed. The man had told police, while he was recovering at a hospital, that he used the phone to conduct drug activity because it was his only phone. According to the affidavit, there were several texts and calls between the two men.
The man who overdosed called Martin to get the heroin, Kyes wrote. Martin told police the man gave him $280 for heroin.
Martin was being held on $25,000 cash bail Tuesday night at the Franklin County jail. After going before a judge Wednesday, his bail was reduced to personal recognizance and a supervised release agreement. He was still at the jail early Wednesday afternoon.
