LEWISTON — Organists Mark Thallander and Andrew McKeon will perform today at 12:15 p.m. at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. Their program will feature both solo and duet performances in anticipation of their upcoming performance at New York City’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday, July 29. They will perform original works by Thallander and other composers, including Michael Burkhart.
Mark Thallander is the president of the Mark Thallander Foundation, a nonprofit foundation that creates and promotes inspirational community music events. Thallander is probably best known for his music ministry at The Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California, where he served for 18 years.
Andrew McKeon is the director of music at Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Center Moriches, New York.
The Basilica’s Casavant organ, the largest church organ in the state of Maine, is the centerpiece for the annual concert series that extends through October. The Basilica’s concert series is supported, in part, by The Saints Peter and Paul Society. Concerts are free and open to the public and donations to the organ restoration project are welcome.
