GEORGETOWN — A colorful crowd of Mainers, including a woman and a dog wearing lobster costumes, gathered in the coastal Maine fog Tuesday morning to watch the filming of segments for NBC’s “Today” show.
Celebrity weatherman Al Roker and co-host Craig Melvin are in Georgetown filming parts of a travel segment that will show Roker clamming, lobstering and camping in Maine.
Roker’s Maine adventure is part of the “Today” show’s “Great Outdoor Series.” Roker and Melvin began a New England trek Monday in Boston, broadcasting live and seeing sights, before hitting the road for Maine. Roker said he’d likely visit places along the Maine coast, though he’s not sure which ones.
Roker and Melvin planned to pitch a tent at Sagadahoc Bay Campground in Georgetown, south of Bath. The campground is not far from Reid State Park and has views of Seguin Island Light.
While in Georgetown Roker said he also planned to do some clam digging and go out on a lobster boat for the TV segment, though he’s not sure where.
NBC meteorologist Al Roker and NBC anchor Craig Melvin, right, joined News Center Maine anchor Lee Nelson, far left, and meteorologist Todd Gunter in trying Moxie on News Center’s Morning Report at 6:00 a.m. The two NBC stars were filming a road trip camping segment at Sagadahoc Bay Campground for an outdoors series.
