SOUTH PARIS — Jane Hathaway of West Paris has been chosen as the 2018 poster artist for the Moore Park Makers Fair, July 28 in South Paris (rain date July 29). One of her unique baskets, made from retired lasso and antler, is featured as the poster art.

Hathaway has been creating since she could hold a pencil in her hand. She is a third generation artist, which has given her the gift of exploring many different avenues of art. This diverse artist has a great acuity with the wide variety of mediums and techniques including drawing and painting, carving, stained glass and mosaics, basket making, jewelry and many more things. Her newest ventures have been watercolor painting on teabags and rug hooking, along with redoing furniture and woodworking.

Growing up in a small town in the Oxford Foothills, the beauty of nature has always surrounded her and inspired her work. In 2008, Hathaway and her husband Miles moved to the desert in the southwest which gave her a chance to work on her art full time. With a year-round farmers and crafters outdoor market, it was also a great place to meet people from around the world. Her work is now in collections in 11 different countries.

In 2016, the couple moved back to the western foothills of Maine to live with Hathaway’s mother, who is also an accomplished artist, so she could remain in her home. Now she is finding her way in a new arts environment and is very active in regional arts and crafts shows.

“Someone asked me once, if there is anything I can’t do. My answer was, I don’t know yet! When it comes to art there is a whole big world out there and there is a lot more to learn. I am hoping I have a long life so I can continue to learn and love my craft,” said Hathaway.
