In an interview recently, Gov. Paul LePage suggested that he would go to jail before he would agree to an expansion of Medicaid that could result in 70,000 additional Mainers getting affordable health care.

LePage has vetoed legislation to expand Medicaid seven times. In last November’s referendum, 59 percent of Maine citizens voted for the expansion. The Kennebec County Superior Court ordered him to draw up a Medicaid expansion plan by July 2. Yet he continues to ignore the law and the majority of the people.

What can the people do when their governor won’t respect the Maine Constitution and the balance of powers?

I quote the Monopoly board game — “Go directly to jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.” And no “Get out of jail free” card for the governor.
