LEWISTON — Irma L. Janosco 85, a longtime resident of Sabattus, died peacefully with her loving family at her side Thursday, July 12, at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion. She was born in Lewiston on Oct. 12, 1932, a daughter of the late F. John and Irma (Francis) Sparks. She was educated in local schools and graduated from Edward Little Class of 1950. Growing up, Irma was very close to her grandparents Chester and Irma Francis. If it were not for them, her family would not have been able to stay together, and she never forgot them and all they did for her.
Irma met her true love through a cousin of hers, Carroll Francis. He set up a blind date with his friend that he was stationed with in Germany, John Janosco, and the rest is history. They shared 63 amazing years together, until he passed Dec. 20, 2017.
Following high school, Irma trained and became a phlebotomist and worked at Central Maine General Hospital until she got married. Irma worked for several years at Harriman Assoc., and retired in 1997. Irma was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and volunteered for many years at the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society. She loved all animals, and though she could not have any growing up, she always found pets that needed her help. She also loved music, played the clarinet and the piano, and also enjoyed listening to 1950s music and old country. Irma was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and enjoyed taking trips with her family and spending all the time she could with them.
She is survived by her two children John Janosco Jr. and his wife, Betty, of Lewiston, and Diane Janosco of Lewiston; a sister, Patricia Janosco, of Lisbon Falls; a sister-in-law, Iola Sparks, of Bowdoin; her three grandchildren: Matthew Janosco of Lewiston and his fiancée, Shella Monroe, of Oxford, and Brian and Kevin Janosco of Big Springs Texas; two great-grandchildren; a special niece, Joline Rider, and her husband, David, of Lisbon Falls; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, John Sparks, and a daughter at birth, Darlene.
