WATERFORD — Waterford World’s Fair will unveil The Storyteller’s Cottage for Agriculture History on Friday, July 20, at the fairgrounds on Green Road off Route 35.

It’s a new exhibit at this year’s fair, which runs Friday to Sunday, July 20 to 22.

The cottage is part of Agriculture & Conservation Family Day from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Visitors will be treated to an array of exhibits that are fun and educational for the whole family.

As part of the “Older Hands for Agriculture & Conservation History,” people can visit the Storyteller’s Cottage to hear older folks tell stories about growing up on farms and in rural areas.

Special this year will be “Miss Lorraine” and her Maybaskets. She’ll be making them as she tells stories about hanging a Maybasket. “Miss Marilyn” has written many stories and poems about her childhood years in Stoneham and she’ll be there to share them.

The cottage has its own history. In another life, it was the outhouse for the local church and has been fixed up to be a part of the fair, but under the wide board on the far side of the building,the old three-holer can be seen.

At the new children’s area, those 10 and younger can visit “Little Hands for Forestry” and learn how to plant a tree, care for the tree as it grows, harvest the tree, load it into the peddle tractor and wagon, and take it to the paper mill. There they can unload their lumber and receive play money, which may be redeemed at the WoodShop Store for many different items made from trees.

Other places for children to visit include making crafts from items scavenged from nature, playing a memory game, and a movable tabletop.

Other exhibits include the balsam sachet booth, fiber tent, blacksmith, oxen, draft horses, Old McDonald’s Farm, Oxford County Soil & Water’s Tenmile River Demonstration Forest information area, and Norway/Paris Fish & Game.

Games include jar rubber ring toss, corntoss, bubble-making, hula hoops and  marbles.

Agriculture & Conservation Family Day is open to all and admission is free from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Visitors can bring a picnic lunch or buy food and ice cream prepared by members of the fair.
