MEXICO — The descendants of Herbert and Mina Worth Lyons held the Lyons Family Reunion on June 30 at the Mexico Recreation Park. Sixty-five members and friends attended.
Herbert Lyons’ family came from Scotland and settled in the area of Stanstead, Quebec, Canada. Mina’s family were of English and Irish descent and settled in Holland, Vermont. The couple married in 1891 and after their 12th child was born in 1913, the family moved to Groveton, New Hampshire.
In 1925, Herbert and Mina moved to the Rumford-Mexico area, following two of their sons who had moved there to find work at the expanding Oxford Paper Co. in Rumford. Ten of Herbert and Mina’s children followed the family’s migration for jobs and settled in the Rumford-Mexico area, found work and raised their families.
The 12 children, 10 of whom are buried in the Farrington-Morton Cemetery in Mexico, are: Irvin Lyons, Gladys (Lyons) Hersom Elliott, William Lyons, Harry Lyons, George Lyons, Roy Lyons, Henry Lyons, Raymond Lyons, Ella (Lyons) Cannon, Elmer Lyons, Sr., Annie Lyons and Bessie (Lyons) Convery Burgess.
