PORTLAND — The timeless tale, “Treasure Island,” storms the stage at the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine (CMTM) from July 13-29.

Young Jim Hawkins dreams of the pirates’ life, never expecting to actually set foot on a sailing ship. Then, one night, a “black spot” and an antique key change everything. With a map in his hand and courage in his heart, Jim heads off to find the evil Captain Flint’s long-lost buried treasure. But the ship’s one-legged cook — Long John Silver — has plans of his own. And Jim will be tested in ways he never imagined.

Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure “Treasure Island” is adapted and directed by CMTM Theatre and Education Director Reba Short. This tale of friendship, betrayal and finding one’s way home will be performed by our company of young actors for audiences age 5 to 95.

Regular show times include 4 p.m. Fridays, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturdays, 1 and 4 p.m. Sundays, and 11 a.m. Thursdays. The performance will last approximately one hour with no intermission. The production is sponsored by two families who support the arts for children. (Members receive a 10 percent discount.)
