FARMINGTON — A Pennsylvania man pleaded guilty Friday to accessing a car buyer’s previously deleted nude photos and sending them to himself.
Kevin Rennie, 32, of Philadelphia entered the guilty plea to a felony charge of aggravated criminal invasion of computer privacy, with his attorney Peter Kaynor by his side, in Franklin County Superior Court.
Rennie was indicted by a Franklin County grand jury June 28.
If the case had gone to trial, the court would have heard testimony that a woman shopping for a car at Tinny’s Automotive Outlet in Farmington, worked with a salesman named “Kevin” from Philadelphia, District Attorney Andrew Robinson said.
The woman told Farmington police officer Jake Richards that “Kevin” took her phone on March 19 to sync the Bluetooth in the new car and was gone a long time.
The woman had called police after she went home and logged into her computer, which shares files and messages with her phone, and could see that her previously deleted nude photos had been accessed.
Officer Jake Richards put the telephone number into Facebook and it came back as Kevin Rennie of Philadelphia, according to a police affidavit.
Rennie was a subcontracted sales representative for a marketing firm that Tinny’s had hired to do a promotional event, police previously said.
Richards would have testified that Rennie admitted to sending the photo to himself, Andrews told the court.
Judge Maria Woodman accepted the guilty plea. Sentencing was continued to Sept. 18.
Kaynor told the court the agreement for sentencing is 90 days to the Franklin County Detention Center with some credit for time served.
A conviction on the charge carries a penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
Rennie’s bail of $2,000 cash will remain in effect.
