Maegan Sheehy awarded scholarship
PORTLAND — The scholarship subcommittee of the Maine Community Foundation’s Androscoggin County Committee awarded three Laurendeau Scholarships.
Recipients are Maegan Sheehy of Sabattus, attending Rivier University; Danica Deschaine of Van Buren, attending Ave Maria University; and Olivia Gervais of Frenchville, attending University of Maine.
Established in 2013, the statewide Laurendeau Scholarship Fund provides support to young women who are graduating seniors from high schools in Maine who are pursuing post-secondary education in either science or engineering at a four-year university. There is a preference for applicants demonstrating an interest and/or active participation in their Franco-American heritage.
The deadline for the next round of scholarships is June 1, 2019. Applications are available at www.mainecf.org.
Geology, cake at LPL
LEWISTON — Author Katie Coppens will talk to kids at Lewiston Public Library about the wonders of geology through cake. Her book, “Geology is a Piece of Cake,” uses different types of cake to elaborate on tectonic plates, rock formations and more, all while providing yummy recipes.
The presentation will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 16. The library will provide cake.
