AUGUSTA — Eighteen Maine Community College students have been named to the All-Maine Academic Team for two-year colleges by the national Phi Theta Kappa organization. They are being honored by their individual colleges at events being held this spring.

Local students receiving the award, which includes a $500 scholarship from the MCCS board of trustees, are Angela Cafarelli, Greene, and Mark Swiedom, Hebron, both of whom are attending Central Maine Community College in Auburn.

The All-Maine Academic Team is a program of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for two-year colleges. Students are nominated and selected for the team by their college based on outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and service.

ORONO — The Maine Association of Broadcasters has announced that Samuel Wheeler of Greenwood is one of three to be named 2017-2018 Maine Association of Broadcasters Scholars. Wheeler is an University of Maine undergraduate majoring in journalism.

The MAB scholarships are awarded to encourage students interested in pursuing careers in broadcasting and digital media in Maine.

The MAB, in cooperation with UMaine’s Department of Communication and Journalism, administers the awards. Each spring, undergraduates who are college students in Maine and who are interested in careers in broadcasting and/or digital media production in Maine are eligible to apply.

MILTON, Massachusetts — Curry College has announced that Kyle Lussier of Topsham has been inducted into Sigma Beta Delta, the international honor society in business, management and administration. 

Alexandra Landry of New Gloucester has been inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, the official communication honor society of the National Communication Association (NCA).

POTSDAM, New York — The following students received awards during the spring semester at Clarkson University:

Benjamin Paul Lowit of Lewiston received the The John B. Russell Memorial Award, which is awarded to the student judged to be most capable in applying analytical methods in engineering design.

Nathan Miles Starr of Oxford received the Major William W. Coleman Memorial Award. This award consists of a sum of money for the best poem or essay on “Individual Self-Interest Versus the Common Good.”

McKenna LaChapelle of Buckfield received the Commendable Service Award For Seniors, which is awarded to students who have demonstrated quality in service to their area/organization.
