Lewiston police arrested two men Saturday night in connection with reports of gunshots in the downtown area earlier in the day.

The two men are:

• Quentaris J. Leonard, 33, of Lewiston, charged with being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and possession of cocaine.

• James L. Crump, 41, of Dorchester, Massachusetts, charged with robbery, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and aggravated reckless conduct.

Lt. David St. Pierre of the Lewiston Police Department said the men were arrested during the investigation into reports of gunshots, but he did not release details of what led to their arrests.

Quentaris was arrested in Lewiston at about 6 p.m., and the other man was arrested later in Auburn.

Several people reported hearing gunfire early Saturday. They said they heard at least five shots at about 6 a.m. near the corner of Bartlett and Walnut streets.

Police spent the morning looking for a victim after finding what appeared to be a blood trail and other signs shots had been fired.

St. Pierre said it was not clear the blood trail resulted from a shooting or another altercation, and police were not certain the trail was blood or another substance.

St. Pierre said more charges could follow.

The two men are being held at Androscoggin County Jail.

EDITOR’S NOTE: This story has been edited to reflect that only two men were arrested by police in connection with the gun fire. A third man was arrested on unrelated charges.
