LEWISTON — Raymond Palman, 87, passed away Friday, June 29, with his loving family around him.

Raymond was born in Lewiston on Dec. 31, 1930, a son of Thomas and Apolina (Popowich) Palman. He graduated from Lewiston High School and played football on the state championship team.

Raymond continued with his love for football by becoming a referee and traveling throughout the state officiating high school games. Through love and respect for his fairness to the game, Raymond was invited to be a field judge for the second annual Lobster Bowl Classic in 1991.

Following his graduation, Raymond joined his brother Bill in the family’s window cleaning business. For decades he and Bill were familiar figures in the L-A area. As the cold winters took their toll on Raymond, he took a position with then-Pioneer Plastics. He enjoyed his work and great friendships that were made until his retirement.

For Raymond retirement wouldn’t last long as he took a job as a courier for FISC. He said it was his favorite job, one which he looked forward to each day, greeting ‘the ladies” at all the bank stops on his route. Raymond was also a member of the Kora Shrine and Arab Patrol. He was proud of his membership pin and organization that has helped so many children and their families.

Raymond was predeceased by his parents; his son, Michael; his wife, Joyce; and eight siblings.

Raymond is survived by his children, Frances Dumont (Duane), Cathy Palman, Susan Sproul (Dennis) and David Palman (Joanne); he is also survived by six grandchildren, Jessica Gagne, Ethan Dumont, Bethany, Angela, Jacob Sproul, Cole Palman; and nine great-grandchildren.

Raymond’s family wishes to thank Helping Hands, especially Olga, Lidiya and Paula. “The Girls” took such great care of their father for the last few years, treating him with loving kindness and respect. They would also like to thank Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice and Lisa for the daily care of Raymond and the family during the last few difficult days.

Raymond was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a generous and kind soul who will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to have known him. Rest in Peace “Big G.”
