Marijuana moratorium
What happened: Selectmen extended the town’s moratorium for the retail sale of marijuana for another 180 days, as details are continued to be ironed out in Augusta.

What it means: The moratorium, which bans the sale of retail marijuana, was first approved at a special town meeting in January 2017, and has been extended a couple of times since then. Town Manager Joe Roach said the Legislature is in the process of changing the logistics for the state law to require municipalities to opt in to allow retail marijuana sales instead of the current requirement of opting out.

What’s next: The moratorium will remain in effect until December 2018.

Surplus property
What happened: Selectmen approved selling all of the town’s surplus property to the highest bidders.

What it means: McNeil Farms Inc. won the 9-foot Fisher plow for $210, tow-behind powered broom for $110, seven-yard used dump/sander body for $110 and 2007 Ford F-150 for $560. Meadowbrook Motors won the slide-out pickup truck tool tray for $21.50, and the ladder racks for a pickup truck for $25.50.

“All of that stuff will give us a little bit of revenue there and it will be out of our hair,” Roach said.

Highway foreman
What happened: Roach told selectmen he has three applications for the highway foreman position.

What it means: Former Highway Foreman Tyler Belanger left the town to go work in the private sector, leaving a vacancy.

What’s next: Roach plans to do interviews in mid-July with a panel to include a selectman and a member of the Road Committee or a resident. The applicants will be scored based on their responses to the panel’s questions.
