FARMINGTON — A Rangeley man was sentenced Friday to two years in federal prison for distributing a mixture or substance containing fentanyl in the Rangeley area, according to a U. S. District Court documents.

Steven Butler, who was 24 when he was indicted in September 2017, pleaded guilty in January to three felony counts of distributing a mixture or substance containing fentanyl, an opioid-derived drug, in March and June 2017, according to court documents.

He was sentenced at a Bangor court to 24 months on each charge to be served at the same time. After his release, he will be on supervised release for three years.

The court recommended to the Federal Bureau of Prisons that Butler be enrolled in the 500-hour, comprehensive drug treatment program. The court also recommended Butler be considered for incarceration at the federal prison in Berlin, New Hampshire.
