POLAND — Fifteen Maine high school seniors have received Good Science Scholarships of $1,000 each from Poland Spring Water Co.
Recipients included three from Fryeburg Academy, four from Gray-New Gloucester High School, three from Poland Regional High School and five from Bonny Eagle High School.
Each recipient is planning to pursue post-secondary education in life science, physical science, earth science, engineering or environmental science or policy.
Students applied for the scholarships by writing an essay describing what environmental stewardship means to them. Applications are reviewed and awarded by a Poland Spring Selection Committee, made up of members of Poland Spring’s Community Relations and Human Resources teams.
“The caliber of students who apply for this scholarship every year is so impressive,” said Heather Printup, community relations manager for Poland Spring. “It makes it difficult to select the winners. Each of this year’s applicants demonstrated a clear commitment to environmental stewardship — which is at the center of what our company does and who we are. We’re proud to help support these young science scholars as they begin their studies.”
Since 2007, Poland Spring has awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships to Maine graduating seniors.
