JAY — Joan L. Greenleaf, 77, a resident of Jay passed away Saturday, June 30, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, following a lingering illness.

She was born March 2, 1941, in Wilton, the daughter of Lloyd W. Davis and Ina (Ober) Davis. She was a 1959 graduate of Wilton Academy. In 1964, at the Congregational Church in Wilton, she married Richard “Cud” Greenleaf of Jay.

She worked at the shoe shops in Farmington, Livermore Falls, North Jay and Bass Shoe in Wilton. Joan enjoyed crocheting, camping with family in Rockland and Bar Harbor, and going high hoeing with her grandchildren. Joan always put family above everything else.

She would take the shirt off her back for the ones she loved. There was never a moment she was not doing something to better the lives of the ones she held close. She never forgot a single birthday and was damned bound and determined to get a gift. You’d always be waiting and counting on that perfectly wrapped perfume and lotion scented “Sweet Honesty” from Avon.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard Greenleaf, of Jay; her children Terry Greenleaf and “Taffy Jo” of Jay; five grandchildren: Tara L. Fitch and husband, Andrew; Travis A. Greenleaf and wife, Erica; Caleb L. Greenleaf; Cody R. Greenleaf; and Carson R. Greenleaf; four great-grandchildren: Jace E. Fitch, Malachi T. Fitch, Evelynn L. Fitch and Sophia L. Greenleaf; and special friends Nancy Ryder, Trudy Greenleaf, Robert and Deidra Tozier, Mary Young and Becky Haskell.

She was predeceased by her parents, and by her daughter, Tracy L. Greenleaf.
