AUBURN — Down to its last at-bat, Rogers Post scored twice to defeat Locke Mills 2-1 in American Legion baseball action Wednesday.
The bottom of the seventh inning started with back-to-back doubles. Damien St. Pierre reached second after driving the ball to left-center field, and Tim Albert drove him in to tie the game.
Albert was lifted for Nick Hathaway as a pinch runner. Hathaway moved to third when Mason Brushwein legged out a single.
With Jake Arel up to bat, Locke Mills starter Tanner Wheeler threw a wild pitch that scored Hathaway and gave Rogers the win.
St. Pierre, who finished the game with two hits, was also outstanding on the mound, tossing a complete-game, three-hitter for Rogers Post (3-1). He had 11 strikeouts and walked one.
He only ran into trouble in the top of the fourth when Charlie Morton scored from second on a Zack Elliot single. Locke Mills left a runner stranded in scoring position in the top of the seventh inning after Spencer Hurd reached on a double.
Wheeler also went the distance for Locke Mills (2-5). He had five strikeouts, allowed six hits and two walks.
