FARMINGTON — A Franklin County Superior Court jury found a former Farmington man guilty Tuesday of having unlawful sexual contact with a girl under age 12 in 2014.

It took the jury about 30 minutes to convict Ross Adams, 52, 0f Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, of felony unlawful sexual contact. The incidents occurred between July 4 and Oct. 10, 2014, in Farmington.

Adams faces up to 30 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Justice Robert Mullen, who presided over the 1½-day trial, ordered Adams held without bail pending a sentencing hearing, which has not been scheduled. 

Deputy District Attorney James Andrews requested bail be revoked because a psychoanalysis done about 10 years ago indicated Adams has a problem controlling his sexual impulses and he’s been convicted of violating a protection from abuse order.

Defense attorney John Webb asked that bail be continued and he plans to appeal the verdict and file a motion for a new trial based on a videotaped interview of the girl four years ago in Florida. He said Adams has appeared in court as required.

The girl testified Monday in court that Adams had touched her more than once in her private area over and under her clothing during the time she and her mother lived in Farmington.

Ross was arrested in December 2014 in Massachusetts on a warrant issued by the Farmington Police Department. He was indicted by a Franklin County grand jury the following month.

The girl, who has lived with her father in Florida since October 2014, will write a victim impact statement before she leaves Maine this week.
