LEWISTON — Salvatore LaBarbera, 82, died Tuesday evening, June 19, at his home. Sal was born May 18, 1936, in Manhattan, New York City, the son of Roberto and Anna (Sparacino) LaBarbera. He grew up in Flushing, Queens, N.Y., and moved to Portland in 1962.

In 1967, he married his wife of 51 years, Ann Duran. In 1968, they moved to the Rumford area and in 1986 they moved to Newry and remained there until they moved to Lewiston in 2011.

Sal had a floor-cleaning business for more than 40 years. He enjoyed working on his homes, family trips and his ministry as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He served for many years as an elder and found great joy in sharing his faith with others.

He is survived by his wife, Ann, of Lewiston; son, Rob and his wife, Jeni, of Poland; daughter, Kara LeFort and her husband, Brian, of Lewiston; three grandsons, Sean LeFort, Jared LeFort and Zachariah LaBarbera; brother, Nicholas and wife, Gloria, of New York; sister, Catherine Scelta, of Florida; and nieces and nephews.
