LEWISTON — The eighth-grade completion ceremony is normally held at the Lewiston Armory.
This year, it was moved to Lewiston High School in a student-focused ceremony that included Principal Jake Langlais welcoming the Class of 2022.
“It was held at the high school for the first time,” Langlais said, adding it was initially moved because there was a conflict schedule with the armory.
But the completion ceremony will probably be held at the high school from now on, he said.
“It’s a more appropriate way to represent their transition from middle school to high school,” said Lewiston Middle School Principal Jana Mates, who organized the ceremony.
She told the outgoing eighth-graders that even though the high school is a big school, they should not be intimidated.
“They still have the support of the Lewiston High School family,” Mates said.
Next year, the high school’s new stadium will be complete and an outdoors high school graduation will be planned, Langlais said.
“We’ll consider doing the middle school completion ceremony there, too,” he said.
