AUBURN — Elaine Chenard, beloved educator, friend and dear family member, died June 18, 2018, at The Hospice House in Auburn.
Elaine was born Oct. 11,1938, to Evariste and Rose Alma (Filteau) Chenard. Her mother died when she was a baby and her father later married Rose Aimee Filteau.
“Miss Chenard” spent her entire educational career at Leavitt High School, starting as an outstanding teacher and coach, becoming assistant principal and working in the guidance office. She knew and cared about every student and family.
Elaine served on Turner’s Historical Society, Library Committee, Scholarship Committee and gave generously of herself to the Turner community in many ways. Her passion for education will continue through scholarships and support for the school she loved so much.
Elaine was also well known for her interest in antiques, for wearing multiple scarab bracelets daily and for her outdoor work: mowing, roof raking snow and doing a yearly count of how many apples she picked from her trees.
Elaine is survived by her stepdaughter, Bonnie (and Paul) Deschaine, of Lewiston; her stepgrandson, Nathan (and Emily) Deschaine, of Seattle, Wash.; many cousins, including “her girls”: Connie Winship, Susan Mancine and Doreen Bellmore; many friends and the entire Leavitt/Turner community.
The family recognizes and thanks the loving, faithful friendship and support for Elaine from Martha and Terry Thompson.
Elaine was predeceased by her parents; her life partner, Fred Beal; Carly, Jack and Laura Biscoe; and many relatives and friends.
Elaine was a Hospice House volunteer for many years, and they gave her excellent end of life care.
