RUMFORD — Thelma B. McKenna, 75, of Waldo Street and longtime resident of Milton, passed away Saturday, June 9, at her residence following a long illness.
She was born in Rumford on Dec. 5, 1942, a daughter of Llewellyn A. and Ethel M. (Eastman) Buck.
Thelma was educated in Rumford and was a graduate of Stephens High School.
She married Gerald B. McKenna Sr. on Oct. 22, 1960. Together they celebrated 35 years of marriage; he passed away Sept. 28, 1995.
Thelma was employed for over 20 years with Foster Manufacturing Co. in Wilton. She was also a cook at Sonny’s Diner, The Corner Lunch and Ladd Farms.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, trips to the casino and PEI, playing cards, bingo, crocheting and horseshoes. In her younger years she loved to hunt and fish.
Thelma loved watching “Chicago P.D.,” “Chicago Fire,” “Blue Bloods,” “Walker, Texas Ranger,” “Andy Griffith” and the “Golden Girls.”
She is a former member of the Rumford Center Grange.
The family remembers that her door was always open to anyone.
The last great adventure Thelma took was to Middle, Ga., with her daughter and two grandchildren.
Surviving are her children Gerald McKenna Jr. and wife, Laurie, of Milton, Alfred McKenna and wife, Kristi, of Rumford Point, Paul McKenna and wife, Tina, of Canton, Cheryl Jamison and husband, Rick, of South Paris and Susan Desrosier-Bruce and husband, Michael, of Rumford; a sister, Charlotte Rose of Rumford; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Gerald McKenna Sr.; sisters Esther Knapp and Kathleen Barker; and two brothers, Elbridge Buck and Floyd Buck.
