HARRISON —The historic Scribners Mill Sawmill & Homestead is open from 1 to 4 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays of the month this summer.
This year’s focus is the restoration of the wooden hearth in the blacksmith shop. Local blacksmith, Lucas Damen, will be in the shop demonstrating blacksmithing techniques.
Tours of the site will include the mill, where the restoration of its interior is continuing, and the long shed where shingles are manufactured. The mill has been given a collection of axes which will be on sale on-site this summer.
Across the street from the mill, the 1849 Scribner Homestead will be open for guided tours. In the barn are exhibits of early sawmill equipment and behind the barn is the reconstructed ice house with a display of ice harvesting equipment. A $5 donation for each adult is requested. Private or group tours are available by calling 207-583-6455.
Scribners Mill is found south of Bolsters Mills from the Jesse Mill Road. Crossing over the Crooked River bridge into the town of Harrison, the mill is on the left.
