PORTLAND — Eleven Maine credit unions were recognized with the Maine Credit Union League’s annual state awards during the League’s annual meeting May 18.

Five local credit unions were honored with awards. They are:

• Central Maine Federal Credit Union of Lewiston and Auburn received four awards, including a second-place Desjardins Adult Financial Education Award, an Honorable Mention Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award, an Honorable Mention Dora Maxwell Community-Service Award, and an Honorable Mention Louise Herring Member Education Award.

• Community Credit Union of Lewiston, with branches in Auburn and Turner, received four awards, including a first-place Desjardins Adult Financial Education Award, an Honorable Mention Dora Maxwell Community Service Award, and an Honorable Mention Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award.

• Dirigo Federal Credit Union of Lewiston, with branches in Auburn, Mechanic Falls and South Paris, received a second-place Louise Herring Member Education Award.

• Five County Credit Union, which has branches in Auburn, Lewiston and Lisbon, received a first-place Louise Herring Member Education Award and a first place Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award.

• Oxford Federal Credit Union of Mexico and Norway, received a first-place Dora Maxwell Community-Service Award.

A total of 22 awards were presented with several CUs receiving multiple awards. All first-place winners will now move on to compete in the national competition, coordinated by the Credit Union National Association, in the fall.

From community service and member education to financial education for youth and financial education for adults, Maine credit unions have a long and storied history of helping members and communities.
